Important safety information for Dutasteride 0.5mg Capsule

Warning:

Dutasteride can cause serious side effects. Do not take Dutasteride if you:

  • Are pregnant or may become pregnant. Dutasteride may harm an unborn baby.
  • Are allergic to Dutasteride, other 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, or any of the ingredients in Dutasteride capsules.

 

Before Taking Dutasteride:

Consult your doctor or healthcare provider if you:

  • Have a history of liver disease or abnormal liver function tests
  • Have prostate cancer or a history of prostate issues
  • Have urinary problems
  • Are planning to father a child
  • Are taking any other medications, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements

Possible Side Effects:

Common side effects include:

  • Decreased libido (sex drive)
  • Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection (erectile dysfunction)
  • Decrease in the amount of semen released during sex
  • Breast tenderness or enlargement

 

Serious side effects:

  • Breast changes such as lumps, pain, or nipple discharge. Report these to your doctor right away.
  • Depression and mood changes. Notify your doctor if you experience these symptoms.
  • Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, hives, and swelling of the lips and face. Seek medical help if you experience these symptoms.

 

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

  • Dutasteride should not be taken by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. It can cause birth defects, particularly affecting the development of the male fetus’s genitalia.
  • Women who are pregnant or could become pregnant should not handle Dutasteride capsules, especially if they are broken or leaking.

Drug Interactions:

Dutasteride may interact with certain medications. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including:

  • Other medications for prostate issues or urinary problems
  • Any medications that can affect liver function

Dosage and Administration:

  • Dutasteride should be taken as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
  • The usual dose is one 0.5mg capsule taken once daily, with or without food.
  • Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsules as contact with the contents may cause irritation.
  • It may take several months to notice an improvement in symptoms. Continue taking Dutasteride even if you do not see immediate results.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.

Storage:

  • Store Dutasteride at room temperature between 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C).
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Keep the capsules in the original package to protect from moisture and light.

Additional Information:

  • Dutasteride is for use by men only.
  • Regular monitoring by your doctor may be required while taking Dutasteride.
  • Do not donate blood while taking Dutasteride and for at least 6 months after stopping treatment to prevent the medication from being given to a pregnant woman through a blood transfusion.
  • Do not share your medication with others, even if they have the same symptoms.
